Africa’s economic transformation depends on strong businesses, competitive trade systems, and resilient institutions.
Why AEDH Exists
Africa is home to over 1.4 billion people, a population projected to reach nearly 2.5 billion by 2050 (United Nations).
Yet despite its immense potential:
- Intra-African trade accounts for only 15% of total African trade (UNCTAD).
- Africa contributes less than 3% of global trade (World Trade Organization).
- The continent faces an annual infrastructure financing gap of up to US$108 billion (African Development Bank).
- SMEs drive nearly 80% of employment, yet many remain excluded from finance, innovation ecosystems, and regional markets (World Bank & IFC).
How we Do It
Africa Economic Development Hub (AEDH) is Strathmore University’s flagship platform for advancing Africa’s economic transformation through research, enterprise development, policy engagement, and innovation.
At a time when Africa is redefining its place in the global economy, AEDH works at the intersection of ideas, enterprise, trade, and leadership to help build more competitive, inclusive, and resilient economic systems across the continent.
Through economic intelligence, strategic partnerships, youth empowerment, SME development, and regional trade initiatives, AEDH is helping shape the next generation of African economic leadership and sustainable prosperity.
